Headsets
The headset is the bearing assembly allowing the fork to turn in the frame. Consider head tube and fork steerer together. Examine complete sets, lower bearing parts and spacers separately; do not establish compatibility from appearance or the word oversize alone.

Read frame and fork standards together
Upper and lower bearing arrangements may differ. Check frame seat type, bearing diameter, steerer dimensions and crown race interface. Where supplied, compare the S.H.I.S code with your existing system. Conversion lower assemblies suit specific interfaces; they do not make every tapered or straight steerer combination compatible. The top cap alone does not reveal the entire standard: identify bearing fit within the frame and the lower interface too.
- Record upper and lower bearing dimensions separately.
- Distinguish a complete headset from a lower assembly.
- Check spacer internal diameter and height.
Are all oversize headsets interchangeable?
No. That word does not define all necessary dimensions. Verify the detailed frame-seat and steerer standards.
Can only the bearing be replaced?
It depends on bearing construction and part condition. Replacement dimensions and seating must be correct; assess other worn surfaces during servicing too.
