Handlebars
Handlebars are key to hand placement and riding position. PRO road examples vary in width, shape and material. Check stem diameter and control compatibility; an accessory extension is not a complete handlebar.

Match handlebar shape to riding position
Width, reach and drop affect hand positions on road bars. Brands may measure width differently, so inspect technical drawings. For aluminium and carbon, consider mounting instructions and accessory permissions alongside weight. Do not confuse centre clamp diameter with control mounting diameter.
- Match stem clamp and handlebar centre diameters.
- Check brake and shifter mounting compatibility.
- Assess width and shape with your current position.
- Examine cable routing, tape and accessory attachment requirements.
Will two bars of equal width feel identical?
No. Reach, drop and top shape may differ. Compare measurement methods and geometry together.
Can any handlebar take an extension or riser?
Dimensions and manufacturer approval must match. Check material limits and distinguish complete bars from supporting accessories.
