Firecrest Technology
While developing the original 303 rims, Zipp discovered that a wider rim increased lateral stiffness for fast running and cornering, while also providing greater vertical compliance for increased control, comfort and durability. This wider rim profile led ZIPP to develop Firecrest technology, which revolutionizes aerodynamic efficiency and stability for carbon wheels. The proprietary Firecrest rim shape optimizes the aerodynamic profile of the front half and—here’s the revolutionary part—the rear half of the wheel. Firecrest moves the wheel’s center of pressure more in line with the steering axis for stability in even the strongest crosswinds. All of these innovations, combined with the precise control of disc braking, give you a wheel that’s both hard and soft.

ABLC

Advanced Boundary Layer Control (ABLC) refers to the patented and instantly recognizable dimple pattern found on all of Zipp’s carbon rims. ABLC smooths the airflow across the rim surface and is specifically designed for every model from 202 to Super-9 Disc. The third-generation ABLC has up to four times more dimples than its predecessor.

NOTES: Due to the hookless profile, Zipp 404 FC rims are only suitable for use with ETRTO compatible tubeless tyres.

However, the corresponding tubeless tires can be ridden with an inner tube on the wheels without any problems.
