Basic ergonomics
HORNET 3 is a very strong, robust and easy to use rack for transporting the heaviest e-bikes.
Wide wheel supports allow fitting of most regular bike sizes and tire sizes.
Key features of HORNET 3
Assembly: Although the HORNET 3 comes unassembled, it is very easy to put together: simply mount the wheel support frame to the base using 6 screws, mount the light bracket with 2 more screws, attach the license plate, attach the rack to the tractor ball with no tools required and you are ready to go!
Installation on the vehicle: When you first place the HORNET 3 on the tow ball, it supports itself – you can let it go and it won’t fall to the ground. You then take the weight again, turn the tightening knob until it is tight and lock it. BUZZRACK’s carriers comply with the very exacting standard XPR-18-904-4 and therefore include an anti-sway tensioner; this has an integrated handle and 2 or 3 turns are usually sufficient. The video below shows the fit to the vehicle and the mounting of the bikes.
Assembling the bike: Simply place the bike on the wheel support. Adjust the clamp position by sliding it around the vertical tube frame to find the perfect fit for the bike frame. Clamp the frame, attach the wheels using the ratchet straps, lock the clamps.
Lighting system: The HORNET 3 comes with a 7-pin lighting system. A 7-pin to 13-pin adapter is not included but can be purchased optionally.
Bending: Tilting is easy and it is very well balanced, even with a full load. The HORNET 3 sits quite high on the towbar and the tilt function is optimised to prevent the lights from hitting the road surface, while using the weight of the bikes to help bring the bike platform back up to level in a controlled manner. However, this geometry does not allow the opening of high vertical rear hatches – e.g. VW Transporter T5 and T6.
Bicycle and e-bike transport
Wheel holders accommodate all wheelbases (not tandem!), including small children's bikes.
Long rubber padded wheel straps grip tires up to 4 inches wide; pull to tighten and use the quick release to loosen
The lockable frame arms hold your bikes securely and can be attached anywhere on the frame or seat post. They can be locked using the same key as the tow ball attachment system.
The maximum load allowed is 60kg, without bicycles weighing more than 30kg
Other features and basic specifications
The patented tapered hitch fits all hitch balls, even the occasional bolt-on hitch balls we see that don't meet neck length or ball diameter standards.
A reminder that the hitch ball is locked.
The HORNET 3 sits high on its towbar, well clear of speed bumps and other hazards such as steep ferry ramps.

The maximum permitted load you can carry also depends on the weight of the towbar nose; you will need to check you do not exceed this before using any towball mounted bike carrier.
