SHIMANO SLX cassette 12-speed CS-M7100 | 10-51 teeth
Shimano does the same, also relying on a 12-speed drive for its SLX M7100 group. Unlike the competition, the Japanese give the biker the option of opting for the maximum bandwidth (10-51 teeth) or a narrower cassette (10-45 teeth) with lower cadence jumps when shifting. The former is especially appealing to riders who want to pedal long and steep climbs at a high tempo.
Smooth and precise gear changes have always been a trademark of Shimano cassettes. The gears of the latest generation Hyperglide cassettes are positioned in such a way that the chain runs extremely smoothly and with little vibration, especially when shifting to a larger cog. Shimano introduces Hyperglide+ with the SLX M7100 cassette. Thanks to this technology, gear changes are now just as smooth when shifting to a heavier gear and are 1/3 faster compared to the CS-M7000 cassette.
Shimano relies on a mix of steel and aluminum for the pinions when designing the cassette. The ten small gears with the lowest chain wrap and highest load are made of steel, while the two large gears are made of aluminum. The use of material depending on the load results in even wear on the cassette and also extends the life of the chain. The cassette is held together by an aluminum spider.
