Although the Continental Grand Prix 5000 is still one of the fastest and most popular road bike tires, that hasn't stopped the German manufacturer's developers from launching an all-around improved tubeless-ready (TR) version.
At first glance, the 5000 S TR is hardly distinguishable from the previous version. However, the familiar Lazer Grip profile structure hides a completely newly developed design. Unlike the previous version, the 5000 S TR has only 2 fabric layers under the tread instead of 3. This provides a better grip on the road and contributes significantly to a 20% reduction in rolling resistance. Thanks to the Vectran Breaker puncture protection layer and the non-slip Black Chili tread from the previous version, the reduction in the number of layers has no negative effect on puncture protection. The sidewalls still consist of 3 layers with the newly added protective layer. This not only increases the puncture protection of the sidewalls by 28%, but also ensures that the tyre runs more stably at low inflation pressures. The new, patented inner tube structure, which does not require a sealing rubber layer, makes the tyre 50 grams lighter than the previous version.
The new 5000 S TR, long awaited by many Conti fans, is now also compatible with hookless rims. However, it can still be ridden with classic rims and also with tubes.
The new tubeless tyre has already proven its outstanding properties and versatility in racing. Both the individual time trial world title and the Paris-Roubaix victory were achieved with the 5000 ST R.

Vectran Crusher
Vectran™ is a synthetically produced high-tech fiber based on a natural model. Like spider silk, Vectran™ is a liquid crystal polymer (LCP). Vectran™ is spun from the molten liquid polymer Vectra and then processed into a multifilament yarn. Spider silk and Vectran™ have exceptional tear resistance at minimal weight. Higher puncture resistance and lower weight are the advantages of the Vectran breaker.
