With the electronic RED eTap AXS, the next revolution in gear groupsets from SRAM is underway. It not only offers a higher bandwidth, but also smaller gear jumps compared to the previous version. This feature, which may sound absurd at first glance, is made possible by the new X-range transmission variants of the RED DUB crank in combination with the RED 12-speed cassette. Thanks to the cassette’s 10th cog, smaller chainrings are sufficient to achieve the same maximum development as an 11-speed cog. With a wide range of gear ratios and 1-speed and 2-speed versions, the eTap AXS is as versatile as any drop-bar bike today: from gravel bikes to time trial machines, the right RED eTap groupset can be put together. The new AXS technology (pronounced “reach”) allows you to adjust gear shifting to your personal preferences, evaluate your shifting behavior or perform firmware updates via the smartphone app. In addition to all gearshift buttons being freely selectable, gearshifting can also be operated in semi-automatic mode, in which the rear derailleur and front derailleur synchronize themselves and you only have to choose between a lighter and a heavier gear.

Gear brake lever
With only one shift lever on each side of the handlebar and simple shift logic, shifting gears with eTap shifters is virtually impossible. Shifting is precise, fast and easy. The revised ErgoBlade Carbon levers fit perfectly in the hand and the wide eTap shifters are unnoticeable even with winter gloves. What’s more, they provide the rider with tactile and acoustic feedback when changing gears. Up to 2 Blip shift buttons can be connected per shift lever for additional shifting options.

HydroHC Hydraulic-Road-Disc (HRD) brakes
Since there is no need for a gear change mechanism on the brake lever, the encoder piston can be perfectly integrated into the gear/brake lever. As a result, the hydraulic reservoir is smaller, more in line with the overall appearance of the bike and fits better in the hand. Contact Point Adjustment also provides better ergonomics. The pressure point of the lever can be precisely adjusted via a hexagon screw without affecting the distance between the brake pads. When the brake is not applied, the lever width can also be adjusted according to the size of the hand via a hexagon screw. For higher braking performance, SRAM is using a newly designed 2-piece brake caliper starting in model year 2020.

Centerline XR brake discs | Center Lock
New optimized design with large friction surface for more braking power and less brake fade. Newly designed aluminum spider provides better heat dissipation and has better aerodynamic properties. Thanks to the 7-point connection of the friction ring, vibrations of the disc can be reduced, which reduces noise generation during braking.
The rounded edges on the top of the disc minimise the risk of injury and comply with the guidelines of the world cycling federation UCI. As a further advantage, the rounded top facilitates wheel mounting as it prevents jamming in the brake caliper.

Rear derailleur
The eTap AXS rear derailleur features a revised motor and improved data transmission for even faster shifting. Speed-dependent Orbit-Fluid vibration damping ensures safe chain guidance even in off-road use. Enlarged gear pulleys and ceramic bearings make the drive even more efficient compared to the previous version. Equipped with an additional ANT+ transmitter, the rear derailleur can communicate with bike computers and display information on battery charge status and current gear.

Front derailleur
The new SRAM RED eTap front derailleur has been developed for the 2-speed X-Range chainring stages of the eTap AXS groupset. Equipped with proven SRAM Yaw technology, trimming the front derailleur is no longer necessary. Shift force is automatically regulated by the shift range. For use on cyclocross and gravel bikes, the front derailleur offers extra tire clearance.

Charger/Batteries
The integrated batteries in the rear derailleur and front derailleur have a range of over 1,000 kilometres. The charge status can be read at any time via LED lights. The batteries in the rear derailleur and front derailleur are identical and can therefore be swapped on the road. The batteries are recharged within an hour using the included charger.
