The RD-R8150 12-speed rear derailleur is the staple of the Shimano Ultegra Di2 road bike groupset when it comes to semi-wireless and fully wired shifting.
It offers more than a traditional rear derailleur, as it wirelessly communicates with the shift/brake levers via the built-in wireless chip in the disc brake version.
In the version of the rim brake wired to the STIs, it is responsible for connecting the components. This is done via a function button, which is also used to adjust the rear derailleur.
You can also use the button to check the battery level, change the gear mode from manual to Synchro and Semi-Synchro Shift, and establish a Bluetooth connection with a cycling computer or smartphone.
An LED display helps you do this. The rear derailleur is connected to the battery via a cable, which also goes to the front derailleur and possibly the STIs.
It has a charging port that allows you to easily charge your circuit using the matching charging cable.
In racing and training use, the RD-R8150 convinces with its extremely high gearshift speed that clearly surpasses its predecessor.

Shadow rear derailleurs have a very flat profile, minimizing the risk of tripping over obstacles, providing a more aggressive driving style. Digital Integrated Intelligence (Di2)
Di2 systems are Shimano's electronic shifting systems. They are based on SEIS, a Shimano Electronic Intelligent System that takes over the index shift function from mechanical components only via power cables or radio signals, not via a Bowden cable. Gear shifting is done with just the push of a button. The advantage is that it does not require a lot of effort, your concentration while driving is not impaired and it is easy to use even with cold hands. In addition, electronic gear changes are very fast and extremely precise. There is also no risk of faulty circuitry due to dirty wiring or other problems. Via the E-Tube Project you can adjust individual settings such as gear shift speed, the number of shifts per button press, or the Synchro or Semi-Synchro shift function. Shimano offers an app for this purpose. Gear maintenance and firmware updates are also done via E-Tube, with the bike connected to a PC running the appropriate E-Tube software for more extensive workshops.

Shimano Synchro Shifting
Shimano's synchronized shifting function is a shifting mode that automatically pairs with the Di2 rear derailleur and Di2 front derailleur. It is activated via the E-Tube platform or via the rear derailleurs with a function button. Synchronous Shifting means that the front derailleur automatically selects an appropriate gear based on the position of the rear derailleur, while Semi-Synchronous Shifting means that an appropriate rear derailleur position is automatically set when you operate the front derailleur. This gives you the advantage of concentrating on only one side of the shifting process and not disrupting the rhythm with sudden undesirable changes in gear ratio.
